Native American Collection
The banks of our rivers and Winyah Bay were home to several Native American tribes. The Waccamaw, Winyah, PeeDee, Santee and Sampit Indians roamed the woods and beaches here and left behind some hints of their existence.
Their numbers were diminished already before white men arrived here and the diseases we carried with us were fatal to many. They left behind not only their names, but many artifacts which tell us something about their lives. Arrowheads, pottery shards, and crude implements are on display here at the Museum.
